Young adults raise their voices for a better environment Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo is 1 of 6 spots across the country hosting a Power Shift Summit this weekend. It's aimed for young adults to come together, and raise their voices for a better environment. The Northern Plains Power Shift Summit is adding to the green movement. Event coordinators say it's a 2 tear program shifting the economy to green jobs and clean energy while shifting power from 1 generation to the next. If we want to start reducing our global warming pollution, we need to start putting people to work to do that." Summit coordinators say 3 day events like this Power Shift are being held to get a voice to our lawmakers in hopes of congress passing the strongest climate change legislation possible. We can kill a number of birds with one stone. We can create new jobs. Estimates show that in the U.S., there are easily 5 million new jobs we could create and thousands of them would be here in North Dakota. For the second part of the goal, the environmental groups target college students in creating the power shift, bringing in experts in clean energy, green jobs and how to prevent global warming. As well as educating student leaders on how to start spreading new idea's on their campuses. We have a new mindset. We have new goals for what we want to come from this generation, and what we want to happen in the future. There's been a paradigm shift compared from our generation to our parents generation and their parents generation so if we want the change to happen we have to do it ourselves.
