Illinois Schools Move Toward Solar Energy
Georgetown Ridge Farm High School of Illinois and Danville High School of Illinois enter into agreement with Illiana Power Corporation for small scale solar demonstration systems. These arrays are being used to teach the value of renewable energy and energy efficiency to students by turning school buildings into hands on science experiments.
Illiana Power Corporation of Indiana has been working with school corporations to provide solar energy systems. These systems are installed on educational centers and schools so that they are visible to passersby and to the students from school grounds. Combining high visibility with teacher training and data collection, the schools and education centers are turned into teaching laboratories.
Data from the solar energy system is stored and displayed online making this experience accessible to all students in all classrooms. A small scale demonstration solar energy system is now available online via Fat Spaniel monitoring.
