| Description: | Earth Day, celebrated April 22, is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It is held annually during both spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in in 1970 and is celebrated in many countries every year. The United Nations celebrates an Earth Day each year on the March equinox, a tradition which was founded by peace activist John McConnell in 1969. |
| Details: | The concept of EnviroSpeak.tv was born on Earth Day 2007 in Santa Barbara california by Nicole Sorochan. After attending the Invisible Children's Displace me in Los Angeles, Nicole really wanted to use her film and social media talent to do what she thought media was intended to do: educate and change the world. Following a filming trip to Lebanon and Syria where she met several youth who were expelled from Syria because of their human rights facebook groups and following a filming trip to Thailand where youtube.com was outright banned because of a video that insulted the King, she realized the potential of online media and technology. With these 3 experiences, Nicole decided that she would create a site that was specifically made for environmental collaboration- that raised the current potential for what we can do online. We can save our earth by collaborating, showcasing, and inspiring people around the world with our own tiny actions. |
