Solar Energy

Mission: The mission of this group is to advocate for and inform the public about the solar energy revolution that is now taking place.
Founder: Kevin Green, California
Description: There is enough energy from the sun falling upon the earth to power the planet thousands of times over. Powering homes, businesses, cars and other items by solar energy has long been a dream by many. Some are already doing it and have been for a very long time. But, the price of photovoltaic panels and cells have kept many out of the market. With breakthroughs in solar energy happening all the time plus economies of scale, the price of solar energy has dropped within the last couple of years. Combine this with incentives from federal, state and local entities and both business and residential solar is now becoming affordable. But, much needs to be done to advocate for the continued growth of solar energy. The Bush administration and Bureau of Land Management has just reversed their decision to put a 2-year hold on solar energy contracts for public lands. If renewable and sustainable solar power is to take a stronghold in the marketplace, we need to keep the conversation going about the merits of energy independence, reducing reliance upon fossil fuels, and what we can do on a local level to procure alternative energy solutions on a worldwide scale.
