Climate Change and Government

Mission: Discussing government policy and legislation and helping to urge our elected leader to rise to the challenge before us.
Founder: Tom Schueneman, San Francisco
Description: Meeting the challenge of global warming is a "three-legged stool" - it requires action and commitment from individuals, business, and government. Each influences to the other. To a large degree, especially in the United States, grassroots activism and many forward-thinking businesses and entrepreneurs are ahead of government in setting a future course for helping to insure a stable climate and sustainable future.
Details: Government is an essential element in achieving the 80% reduction in global carbon emissions by 2050 that scientists say is required to avoid the worst possible consequences of climate change. Various policy initiatives are possible, from revenue neutral carbon tax to carbon cap and trade programs. Government also plays a vital role in spurring innovation in green technology and renewable energy. Getting beyond partisan bickering and engaging a substantive debate is urgently needed.
